Presenting Big Shows on Small Budgets

PRE-PACKAGED FAMILY OR STUDENT SHOWS FOR SMALL BUDGETS

How do you take a big orchestra production and tour it to schools? How do you present a thoroughly engaging family or education concert on a small budget?  Did you know that some of Platypus Theatre’s most popular shows also have arrangements for reduced orchestras and chamber ensembles?  With fewer musicians, the show not only becomes more affordable, but also more portable, allowing for smaller venues and more diverse audiences.

HIGH-QUALITY TURNKEY FAMILY SHOWS FOR BIG OR SMALL ENSEMBLES

A quarter of a million audience members from three continents have helped the Gimquat search for her song over the course of more than 20 years. How the Gimquat Found her Song is one of Platypus Theatre's most beloved productions. There have even been two television versions of the show! To bring the joy of musical discovery to even more children and families - in addition to the full orchestra version of the show - Platypus Theatre has created versions for chamber orchestra and for a six-musician ensemble. It really is possible to offer a high-quality turnkey production on a reduced budget.

PETER AND THE WOLF WITH A WOODWIND QUINTET

Two dancers, colourful sets and incredible masks make for a modern and humorous re-telling of this well-loved classic. We premiered our production of Peter and the Wolf to seven sold-out houses with the Toronto Symphony in 2014, and remounted it in French, English and bilingual versions with the Montreal Symphony later in the same year. This versatile show can be performed with instrumentation for either a full symphony orchestra or a woodwind quintet. Contact us to find out more.
